Snoring and Sleep Apnea Diagnosis and Treatment
Snoring is a common and uncomfortable condition that can disrupt sleep patterns for both the snorer and their partner. In some cases, snoring may be a sign of sleep apnea, a more serious sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep.
Diagnosing snoring may include a physical exam, medical history, and sleep study to determine if sleep apnea is present. Treatment options for snoring may include lifestyle changes such as weight loss and avoidance of alcohol before bedtime, as well as the use of devices such as nasal strips or oral attachments.
However, it may be necessary to apply different surgical methods in snoring caused by the soft palate and tongue root and sometimes even the larynx structure. Sleep masks, which we call CPAP, are recommended for patients with severe sleep apnea. In our patients who cannot use this mask, the problem can be resolved with more advanced surgical techniques.
We recommend that you consult our highly experienced doctors, surgeons and/or plastic surgeons specialized in the field you are interested and make a preliminary consultation for all your questions and concerns in order to determine which treatment will be the right one for you and to have realistic outcome expectations.
